How to Find Cheap Hotels in New York

By Gee Njuguna | July 31, 2008

by Gee Njuguna

I have traveled far and wide and in my many months of travel, i have noticed a peculiar thing with people. I find that many people are not interested in bargaining for good deals and don’t try even before they start. It seems as if bartering has been lost on many people as is the art of comparison shopping. Did you know that every coin that you save when you go on vacation when making purchases on items such as food, accommodation and transport is an extra money that can be used for other things such as adventure and entertainment.

In the great city of New York, there is lots that you can do here as you conduct your business or vacation that you will not find time to be bored. New York city has so much to offer that its hard to know where to begin. Since New York is an expensive city and finding cheap hotels in New York city requires effort, I would recommend that you start saving early before landing here. One of the ways to do this is to take time each day and take notes of the people you have had a chance to talk to and the offers you came across in terms of price & perks for accommodations.

New York is a competitive city and as a result, many hotels in New York bend over backwards to please potential customers by offering them perks in order to get business from them. Many managers of these hotels aggressively promote the hotels they are managing because they know that the more rooms they sell the more money the hotel makes thus keeping their own jobs secure

If you are the aggressive type and are diligent in taking notes of the hotels that you have visited and have made arrangements to visit and have a look around, then you will most likely create a deal with one of them that will turn out much better than they the price they were offering you originally.

This method might not work out very well if you try to secure a deal on a weekend that is known to be popular for travel. Therefore i would advice that you don’t search for accommodation in New York on popular holiday dates or on extended weekends for your trip. Apart from these, the rest of the weekends are open to all unless there is a popular event going onthat will attract a huge crowd to stay in the hotels.

Remember when I said that lots of folks don’t like to bargain and would rather give up on good deals? Well, not only are you able to get better deals by doing a comparison of different hotels in New York, but can be lucky to get free perks such as tickets, meals, tickets to shows or even spa packages at hotels and gift certificates at the hotel gift store. Don’t be surprised at the length at which hotel managers will go in order to have you stay at their New York hotel. The manager are willing to incur small losses because they know that they will be will make up more money in add-ons and other purchases that you will make.

Dont forget to be a generous tipper while you enjoy yourself in this hotel as some New York hotel managers can get irritated with you. Dont confuse being frugal and being cheap. Should you treat the staff at the hotel badly, they will surely remember you long after you’ve left The issue here is that you need to be polite and nice to the New York city hotel managers over the telephone and going with your best deal.

Finally, remember that getting the cheapest room is not necessarily getting the best deal. For example, if you are getting one or two meals per day while at the hotel and yet on the other hand are only paying five or ten dollars more a day, then its logical that you are getting a very fair bargain particularly if one of the meals is dinner.

By John Broffman | July 31, 2008

by John Broffman

A lot of people may not know this, but Six Flags is more than just an amusement park known for its intense thrills. Six Flags also comes in another form situated all over as well-it’s wet and wild side better known as Six Flags Hurricane Harbor.

Sprinkled all over the country, you are sure to find a Hurricane Harbor somewhat nearby where you live. These may be Hurricane Harbor all by itself or both Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor right next to each other. Little is different between the two because in both you will still find the wet and wild fun Hurricane Harbor has to offer. From the hi-tech water rides to the various slides, pools, and river rides, there’s no less satisfaction at one or the other.

Hurricane Harbor began taking the nation by storm starting in Arlington, Texas, where the first of these water parks was placed. The 17th of May is both the beginning of Hurricane Harbor’s summer season and the launching of the fresh new Mega Wedgie. Tickets sell for $24.99. But for kids less than 48″ in height, tickets are only $19.99. Babies under two years old are free. General and preferred parking are available which are $10 and $15.

May 24 officially opens the summer season at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in L.A. where guests get what is called a “California Drenchin”. Hurricane Harbor, L.A. is a weekends-only adventure as of now, and Hurricane Harbor’s tickets in L.A. cost $29.99 (General Admission) and $20.99 for kids less than 48″ in height. Up to 2 y/o are free. Combo tickets are available too for $69.99 which includes both Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor.

New Jersey, on the other hand, consists of Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, Six Flags Great Adventure, and Six Flags Wild Safari Animal Park-all neighboring each other. But Hurricane Harbor is said to be the tri-state area’s most excellent water park. Until the summer season starts (June 19), New Jersey’s Hurricane Harbor is open weekends. Tickets are priced starting at $24.99 (kids 54″ and below) with an additional combo ticket available for admissions to both Hurricane Harbor and Wild Safari Animal Park.

You can buy tickets with admission included for those parks wherein Hurricane Harbor and Six Flags Amusement Park are together. The largest of these combined parks is Six Flags Great America/Hurricane Harbor in Illinois. Located on the outskirts of Chicago, its summer opening is May 21. St. Louis has got access to Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor bought together as one ticket which comes with water fun along with admission to the theme park. Summer season opens May 15.

Near Baltimore and Washington, D.C., is Maryland’s Six Flags America in Prince George’s County with a wave pool known to be one of the country’s largest. This is due to open summer in May, 2008.

Hurricane Harbor of Six Flags New England in Springfield, Massachusetts lays claim to two wave pools. From Boston it’s just a quick drive and people can douse themselves there for the summer in late May.

Travel Insurance

By Roc Selly | July 31, 2008

by Roc Selly

Travel insurance is not a luxury but a necessity and if you can’t afford it then you can’t afford to travel. The travel insurance market is highly competitive and the costs are regularly reviewed and improved. What has always been seen as a burden or unnecessary expense can now be viewed in a pleasant light for the average traveler and holiday maker. The potential risks encountered when travelling or leaving home for a length of time with only a few bags to hold your previous belongings can be daunting especially when you are surrounded by strangers who do not speak your language!

Aside from loss and damage, a very important factor of your travel insurance to remember is the medical insurance that comes with it. Without adequate medical travel insurance, whilst on holiday, you will be liable to pay for any doctor’s appointments you have and in some countries this alone can end up costing hundreds of dollars. If you happen to need further medical care or, as in extreme cases, need repatriation, you are then looking at fronting thousands of dollars if you don’t have travel insurance.

You will find a number of reviews online sent in by holiday makers who have lost money because they either didn’t have insurance in the first place or neglected to familiarise themselves with the fine print on their policy meaning they thought they were covered in certain situations when in fact they weren’t. So, even more important than getting travel insurance is making sure that you purchase the correct policy and you understand exactly what is and is not covered in your policy. Do not hesitate to voice any queries to your insurance broker and always read your policy wording carefully before purchasing your travel insurance.

Thinking of starting a new Life in Cyprus?

By Mark Dale | July 31, 2008

by Mark Dale

For many people the thought of moving abroad is just a distant dream. However, for some that dream could turn into a reality and one place which is particularly popular with people all around the world is Cyprus. Living in Cyprus in something that should be seriously considered.

Why Choose a Life in Cyprus?

The main reason people fall in love with Cyprus is because of its beautiful scenery and atmosphere. It is well known for being the island of love and it is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. The climate is second to none and it is simply a place where you can relax and enjoy the rest of your days.

Put simply - Cyprus is ideal for anybody looking to live a relaxing, enchanting life.

Things you should do before moving to Cyprus

If you are planning on living in Cyprus then there are several things that you must do before committing yourself. Start off by doing lots of research by using books, magazines, and of course the Internet. This may sound obvious but unfortunately too many people don’t do enough research and they find out far too late that they were not fully prepared for a life in Cyprus.

So what should you think about? Well a few factors you should consider include:

- Get a shortlist of areas that seem to meet your needs and visit them. Take time to explore them. - Consider your family and their ages as this will determine your property requirements and location. - Set a budget and make sure you allow for the unexpected. - You will also need to find out about the laws on starting a new life in Cyprus.

Obviously an excellent knowledge of the area(s) you are planning to move to is absolutely essential. When you visit, speak to the locals and try and meet people who have already made a permanent move to Cyprus. They will be able to advise you on both the good and bad aspects of life in Cyprus.

Remember, there is no better way to get to know the facts about an area than speaking to the locals.

If you have children then major decisions will need to be based around their education and well being. Considering nurseries, schools, child minding, and other facilities for your kids is vitally important to a settled life in Cyprus. For example, a remote villa in the mountains will not be the most suitable location for children who need to be taken to school every day.

The local laws and legal implications of buying property also need thinking about. You need to make sure that you find yourself a good lawyer before you start your property hunt. You’ll also need to consider things like pensions if you are retiring to Cyprus.

Problems often arise such as building problems, legal problems to do with planning permission and also problems with sellers pulling out of the deal. The laws are obviously different in Cyprus than they are in the UK and America and so it is important to find out everything you can before you even begin looking into properties in Cyprus.

Overall living in Cyprus could be great, but you really do need to ensure that you get all of the facts about your chosen Cyprus destination before you actually do move there. If you don’t then you could end up regretting the move and you could also potentially lose a lot of money in the process.

6 Ways To Improve Gas Mileage Today!

By Lee Allen | July 30, 2008

by Lee Allen

1. Check your tire pressure. Tires that are under-inflated are “soft” and require more work - and more gas - in order to spin. Have your tires checked whenever you fill up, it doesn’t cost you anything.

2. Make sure your tires are properly aligned. Improperly aligned tires also create drag, especially when going up hill and on turns, meaning your engine is burning more gas.

3. Have your brakes checked. Brakes that are improperly aligned or worn make braking much less efficient, which in turn means you have to brake longer or harder, and burn more gas to accelerate again. Check your brakes whenever you have your tires aligned.

4. Tune your engine. A poorly tuned engine uses more gas, plain and simple. Have your engine’s timing checked, and replace worn or dirty spark plugs.

5. Limit idling. When you are idling, you are getting exactly zero miles per gallon. while it takes more gas to start your car than it does to idle, you can actually save gas by shutting off your engine if you are going to be idle more than 30 seconds.

6. Change your driving habits. Over-accelerating, stop and go traffic, congestion, these all burn unnecessary gas. Do your effands at night when there is less traffic so you can get to and from your destination in less traffic.

There are a lot of ways to improve gas mileage. Start be visiting sites like www.gasforlessmoney.com and start putting these gas-saving tips into practice. A gas mileage improvement of just 10% actually translates into a savings of $5-$10 by reducing how frequently you have to fill your tank!

Christian Family Camps

By Mary Swanson | July 30, 2008

by Mary Swanson

Family life today is very hectic. Christian families especially find themselves busy throughout the year not only with church activities but also with work, school and sports events. All of these are important activities but how much time do you actually spend together as a family? Do you have time for dinner together where you can spend time in relaxed conversation?

Today’s Christian family needs a time and place where they can enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed, restful and fun atmosphere. Probably after your last family vacation you returned worn out and out of money and mentally and physically zapped.

By attending a Christian family camp for your next vacation all the planning has been done for you. You do not have to decide on the hotel or restaurant, all you have to do is partake and enjoy. You will find yourself sitting at the dinner table having relaxed and enlightening conversations with your family.

Most of the family camp locations offer affordable packages where the lodging and 5 complete meals are included (as well as a few in-between meal snacks.) Most meals are served at an “all you can eat” buffet - even the picky eaters will always have an option.

These camps will schedule morning Bible studies and group discussions geared for individual age groups. This allows the afternoon free to take advantage of all the activities such as swimming, horseback riding, rafting, volleyball, softball and more. The parents could take some rest and relaxation time just for themselves while the kids are involved in one of the many activities.

The main focus of the Christian camp or vacation is to encourage the family to grow closer together and become a more strengthened family unit. You are given the tools to enable you to deal with the various family issues that can and will arise.

The family will not only be amassing memories to last a lifetime but gain valuable problem solving skills for the many family situations that may come. You and your children will closer and discover things you may not have known about each other before. Have you ever experienced a vacation like this?

These camps have hired mature young Christian adults that will become role models for your children. They have been chosen for their willing attitudes and love of kids. They all have the qualities you wish you could nurture in your children. Perhaps someday your child will return to be a camp counselor and serve others as well.

Everything about these camps has been designed to feel as if you are on vacation at a 5 star dude ranch. All the Bible studies, accommodations, events and meals have all been chosen for quality enjoyment.

Before you leave you will want to find out how to reserve a space for your family for the next year and the one after that!
