Pet Friendly Places To Stay In Ayr, Scotland
By Andrew Kelly | February 28, 2010
If you are like me you will be looking forward to your summer vacation, maybe you will also be looking for somewhere different to visit this year. Vacations are exciting and yet relaxing and there are many benefits for us and, as many people are discovering, it is also great for a pet to have a vacation. The city of Ayr in Scotland is a great place for visiting with a pet but like many other UK cities it can be a strain finding somewhere to stay. For this reason I have searched out, and listed below, a selection of pet friendly places to stay in Ayr, Scotland.
Ayr is a wonderful town on the south west coast of Scotland which is extremely popular with tourists for a variety of reasons. Most commonly people visit the area to explore the many connections with the famous poet Robert Burns. Burns is known the world over for both his amazing use of the Scots language, his most amazing poetry but also for the way he led his life. You do not have to travel far in this part of the country to find either a building associated with the bard or a monument or statue dedicated to him. Ayr itself has a multitude of important building relating to the national poet but it is in the outlying districts that you will find the man’s heart.
Ayr is the county town of the area known as Ayshire, an area well known for having lush green, fresh and clean, countryside as well as clean and clear waters, the perfect combination of elements for a pet to explore. Beautiful areas of woodland and seaside abound and your pet will love virtually everywhere you go here. There are lots of unusual little towns, villages and hamlets to explore and those with a keen eye may recognize some of the places as they have appeared in several movies including the classic British movie “The Wicker Man”. This strange cult movie is also celebrated at one of the UK’s finest annual music festivals, the family friendly Wickerman Festival held not too far from Ayr towards the end of July.
The Wickerman Festival is held in the neighboring county of Dumfries and Galloway but for this article I am concentrating on Ayr and Ayrshire however, before I list the pet friendly accommodation I would like to request that you really take care to ensure that your chosen hotel or guest house does not regret allowing pets in their rooms. Some places make a charge for pets while other may only charge if there is damage or the room requires extra cleaning but if everyone’s pet behaves pet lovers will keep their excellent reputation.
3 Pet Friendly Hotels
Swallow Station Hotel
This town center pet friendly hotel is pretty big as it has 73 rooms. The three star hotel has a restaurant and bar and has rooms/facilities for disabled visitors. It is superbly located next to Ayr Train Station and only 10 minutes (by road or rail) from Glasgow Prestwick International Airport. This establishment does not charge extra for pets.
The Horizon Hotel
The Horizon is another pet friendly hotel found in the center of the town but this establishment is considerably smaller with only twenty five rooms. This 3 star accommodation does not charge extra for pets.
Savoy Park Hotel
The fifteen room Savoy Park is a tiny bit further away from the very center of town but still within minutes of it. Offering 3 star pet friendly accommodation this excellent family-run hotel also gives a free internet connection (broadband) to each room and there is no extra charge for pets.
Pet Friendly Guest Houses In Ayr
Canter Holm
The six roomed Victorian residence of Canter Holm Guest House is another 3 star pet friendly Ayr establishment which is centrally located. Sadly this is the only place on our list that says “Charges may be applicable) when referring to having a pet in your room.
Grange View Guest House
Grange View is a small pet friendly guest house with only three rooms. Three star accommodation about two minutes from Ayr town center. Pets are allowed on request. No extra charges.
Well that is the end of our list which although short it is as comprehensive as it could be. In my opinion far too few hotels in Ayr allow pets and even fewer guest houses say pets allowed in their policies. This is really unfortunate but we hope that you manage to make a booking (they can be busy) and that you and your pet have a wonderful vacation.
