Costa Rica Yoga Retreats
By Geoffrey David McCabe | March 2, 2010
The tourism world has been shifting throughout the last decade, as a younger group of travelers has been flexing its financial muscles and asking for more from a vacation than most hotels can give, and a new form of vacationing is becoming the trend.
This type of tourist wants more from a vacation than just sightseeing, and so the trend has been hotels and resorts offering yoga and wellness.
Yoga retreat centers are appearing almost everywhere, and nowhere more so than Costa Rica. Most new larger hotels and resorts offer yoga in one form or another, since so many tourists are asking for it.
Costa Rica’s popular tourist towns, such as Santa Teresa or Montezuma usually have many places to learn yoga, with more added all the time, and these resorts and hotels compete for which can have the most special and memorable place to practice yoga.
Places like Anamaya or Los Mangos Hotel in Montezuma have a large wooden deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean, fulfilling every yoga enthusiast’s fantasy about what tropical paradise should look like on their vacation. This kind of yoga deck is very photogenic, and this helps a hotel to succeed in booking guests, since so many vacationers choose their accommodations mostly from the photos of the places they are considering staying at.
Since so many teachers of yoga and pilates have come to Costa Rica to attend yoga retreats, many have naturally fallen in love with the country and a few have stayed permanently. Now many work at various hotels and resorts in Costa Rica, or offer private classes at Costa Rica rental villas.
Because of this, many small towns in Costa Rica that are popular with travelers have a variety of yoga options. The surf towns especially, such as Malpais, often have a lot of choices when it comes toYoga. And frequently, while the guys surf, the girls do yoga.
A healthy vacation at to a Wellness Center most often includes yoga as well. These centers give their clients the ability to relax, eat healthier food, do internal cleansing, meditation, and sometimesnutritional counseling.
The guests at a Wellness retreat discover that when they go back home, they are not only rested, but they are happier because they have increased energy, and these improvements in their lifestyle last past their vacation.
Many wellness centers focus mainly on cleansing, and often begin with fasting. After that a restricted diet of simple organic foods such as fruit and easily digestible vegetables, often raw.
Colon cleansing, lymph drainage massage, acupuncture, sauna, and other body treatments that focus on aiding the body to lose toxins are a crucial part of the process. There are also some yoga positions that are designed to squeeze the internal organs and thus help in cleaning the body.
Clients at these wellness centers report changes such as having much more energy, sleeping better, clearer skin and clearer eyes.
fantasizing about your next trip to Costa Rica, you should research some of the health centers instead of the standard hotel chain. As with so many other people who have visited these places, you will probably return happier and healthier.
