Luxury Holidays on a Budget?

By Trevor Lore | March 17, 2010

Luxury holidays are indeed, as you would expect, luxurious. But this doesn’t have to mean that they’re poor value for money. In fact, you can get great value for money on an indulgent and luxury holiday just by taking a few simple steps. After all, who wants to pay more than necessary?

First of all, why not consider booking accommodation and flights separately? Sometimes this can cut costs dramatically. Of course this doesn’t apply in all circumstances, but certainly in some you will find that if you are prepared to do this, instead of booking a package deal, you’ll be able to save money. This comes through cutting out the middle man. If you book through an agent, you are paying that agent to secure your flights and accommodation for you. There is nothing stopping you, however, from contacting the airline and the hotel yourself. Compare the prices of doing it both ways to see if you can save.

Another, albeit less simple, way in which you can save money is to be prepared to work your holiday sates around the best deals!! It’s absolutely true that you can pay hundreds and hundreds of pounds more to go on the same holiday as someone else even just a week or two later! Why? Because certain periods, such as children’s school holidays and so on see a higher demand for holidays. The travel companies take advantage of this by hiking the prices. It’s just a fact of the travel industry! So, if you can, then you should be flexible on your travel dates to get the maximum value for money.

The third simple measure you can take to get maximum value for money on your luxury holiday is to use a comparison website. You can either use search engines to find a number of holiday comparison sites or go to major ones like Expedia. Travel companies do often have different prices from one another for very similar, or even the same, holiday deals. It’s worth just double checking before you make that payment.

Just because it’s a luxury holiday that you are booking, doesn’t mean you want to spend anymore than you have to in order to get there! By all means, indulge! But there’s no harm in a little sensible shopping around to make sure you’re getting the most for your money.
